His mother had a warm heart, kind eyes, and such a loud boisterous laugh that it would most likely frighten a gorilla if one happened to be nearby.

Leo’s father had run off when Leo was a born— for his father was afraid of the responsibility of raising a new life and he was also drawn to the comfort of younger women. Wise women know a lot but somehow they can never tell the difference between a stand-up guy and a chump. And so, they often end up alone with a pizza pocket. Leo’s mother, Charlotte, was left to work two jobs and care for her son on her own. Though she was exhausted when she returned from work late at night, she was never too tired to offer her son a smile, to read him a book, or to act in one of his plays.
