In this modern era of wirelss, remote everything, now you can actually control your garage door opener with an app on your iPhone, Android, or other smartphone. All you need is a bluetooth board and the free app, though the boards themselves tend to cost somewhere around fifty dollars. But the boards can be used to support other apps as well: controlling your sprinkers, the lights, unlocking your car, and so forth, as well as connecting other electronics to your mobile device.
With this technology, classic garage door opener buttons would be obsolete, and this could give you greater security than in the past for your home. Another great bonus of the feature is that it could help prevent accidents in your garage: if your children have no way of opening the garage when you are not home, there is less likelihood that they will get into some mischief in the garage than otherwise. Maybe you keep power tools in there, or something else dangerous. Now you and you alone (or whoever you decide) has access to the garage. And the app is very specifically designed such that you cannot accidentally open it without realizing, leaving your garage door open all day or all night or something like that.
It's a rather ingenious idea, but not necessary a very novel one: blutooth technology and smart phone apps have recently come out with a flush of other similar products, allowing you to control a great many things from your phone.
The app is really cute because on the screen, it displays an image of an old-school garage door opener button as a throwback shout out to the older technology.
