A re-post, because it's still so funny:
Another update from the world of stupid property damage: a thirty-year-old DUI and 'felony property damage' suspect actually TRYING to destroy a garage door.
Normally people just do it accidentally through their own incompetence and drunkenness. But no, this man forcefully rammed his huge black SUV into a woman's home repeatedly, allegedly screaming obscenities, before screeching off leaving thousands of dollars of property damage in his wake.
According to the witness, he shouted "And that's what you get, you b****!" as he pulled away. The relationship past or present between the arrested man and the victim of this crime is unknown, but one must wonder what a garage door could have possibly done to him to deserve such treatment.
Oh, on second thought- it was probably the HOMEOWNER he was talking to. But still.
And apparently this idiot had a history- his driver's license had already been suspended for five whole years thanks to other DUI convictions. And get this- when he was pulled over after someone saw him careening along the highway, he denied driving at all. When the police finally got him steady enough to take a breathalyzer test, he blew a .23, so far above the legal limit that he should have been in the hospital for alcohol poisoning.
In fact, this guy's apparently such an alcoholic that this is his third DUI. In combination with the new battery and criminal property damage charges, he's looking at a lot of time, most likely.

Although there are definitely exceptions to the rule, most houses these days are built with the garages attached. This creates an impetus for garage builders and do-it-yourself-ers to search for innovative techniques for creating visual continuity between the house and the garage. You don’t want a whole third of the front of your home to stick out like a sore thumb- you have to have them blend in style and color.
And most builders do pretty well. You can really choose from a lot of options these days- glass or acrylic windows for the garage door, for example, are available to match with the windows in the rest of your house. You can make sure the sill colors are the same, or that the basic lines are similar. Plus, garage doors themselves can be ordered or re-painted in any color combination, with almost any architectural motif.
If you want to get really creative, you can think about perhaps avoiding perfect matching, and instead go with complements. Like the real fashionista who knows exact matches aren’t fashion forward, you may want to go for a garage door style that echoes your home, or maybe has a complementary pallette. Cream where your house is white, and white where it’s cream, for example.

Hearing strange noises in the ngiht? Does your garage door keep opening for seemingly no reason? Does it seem like a poltregiest has possessed the doors in the neighborhood?
Fear not! There are several reasons a garage door could be randomly opening, and none of them have to do with ghosts.
The more likely scenario is that some form of radio frequency is interfering with the operation of your garage door opener remote control. These controls operate via waveform signals, so anything that emits a radio wave signal from about 300 to 400 megahertz could be at potential risk for causing random openings.
Generally, TV, fan, and other household remotes wouldn't interfere, as they actually use infrared frequencies. A more likely culprit would have to be a government-grade mechanism, or a police force radio frequency. Odds are, you won't be able to do anything about it on their end.
But for you, you can reset the DIP switched on your remote and your opener such that they use a different frequency to communicate, thus bypassing the interference.

Certain composite materials used in every day life are actually surprisingly fire-retardant or even fireproof. You may not think about it, but having a fireproof garage door can actually be a huge bonus, especially if you live in some of the dry hills or deserts of California, for example. Small fires and huge wildfires pose a huge risk to your home, and having a garage door that is impervious could save the contents of your garage.
So obviously, wood would be the opposite of what kind of material you would want to have in order to prevent flames from engulfing your home. Though wood doors are quite charming, they are definitely much more prone to the elements and to damage than other materials are.
Even though aluminum seems like it would prevent fires from spreading, the thin, flimsy metal tends to allow heat through, and other more flammable objects inside your garage could still go up in smoke ismply because the heat is so great.
Steel is a fairly good choice, because it tends to be thicker and stronger than aluminum and far less easily damaged. Heat transferring along steel, however, is high. It's a fairly conducting metal. Though it's definitely a good bet against smaller fires.
Composite materials have their advantages and disadvantages. Some of them, the ones made with some wood pulp materials, can catch fire or be eaten away by flames. Others that are more on the plastic side are prone to melting and warping. Some metal alloys, however, are the absolute best for protecting your garage from the anger of sparks and flame and heat.
If you live in an area that tends to have fires, or maybe if your kid is a little pyromaniac in the making, you might want to invest in a fire proof door for your garage the next time you upgrade. You'll be thanking yourslef later.
