Garages have seen their fair share of changes and
modernizations over the past twenty to thirty years, coinciding with the
technological advancements over this same period of time. With the increased
popularity of SUVs and pickup trucks in the last ten to fifteen years, garages
need to be built bigger to accommodate the larger vehicles. Additionally, more families
are deciding to have two and three car garages to accommodate more cars as well
as items from their home that they would like to store in their garage.
Originally garage doors were manually operated, but in our
era of technological advancement, garage door openers, devices that allow you
to open your garage from your car, have become the standard. This reliance on
technology poses several interesting questions on the future of garages and
garage door openers. If there is already technology on the market that allows
someone to push a button and have their garage open, how long will it be before
you are able to just approach your garage and have it sense that you are there
and open on its own? Another question this new technology poses, is how long
will it be before garages become fully incorporated parts of people’s homes? It
seems that currently, garages serve two main purposes, storing cars and excess
belongings from people’s homes, but
there is a potential to do more.
For the most part the technological advances for garages have
been good, but there are some downsides that may occur, particularly involving
the reliance on garage door openers. One issue that may arise would occur if
you were to lose your garage door opener. Without this, you would have to open
your garage from the inside and then park your car, causing frustration on a
daily basis. While there are some potential issues that may arise, it is
generally assumed that the technological advances have been positive overall
and have helped to make our lives easier.
