These days there are more and more options for garage door style- colors, shapes, windows, materials, and more. And there's a lot of room for improvisation and creativity, but there are a few total don't that you should not do. Without further ado, the top ten garage door style mistakes:
1. Wood doors with a modern house. Don't so it. No matter how hard you try, if you have a modern-design house with a lot of smooth lines and metal, buying a wooden garage door is probably not a good idea.
2. Windows on a poly-blend door. Just don't do it. If you're going to spring for windows in your garage door, you should also spring for a material that looks good with them, like steel or original wood.
3. Bright color clashes. Do not. If your house is a blue and your garage door is a red, you're heading for tacky-town fast.
4. Aluminum door with a cottage-style house. Never! If your house is all wood and cottage-style, you should stay away from steel, and aluminum especially. The dents that can happen with those types of doors will not look good with an old-school style home.
5. Bright colors with wood. Nope. This is just a common-sense one. If you've sprung for a real wood door and you have it all varnished and looking nice, painting the whole thing a bright color kind of defeats the purpose of having such a nice material.
6. Too few windows. Don't do it. If you're going to get windows in your garage doors, don't just get two. It looks really awkward when you have a nice door with too small or weirdly-spaced windows. Some people even go for just a door that is made of all frosted glass. see window styles here.
Of course certain fashionistas can break the rules, but this is just some basic style advice.
