The garage is an
often overlooked hang out spot. It can get
so cluttered and full that homeowners may fail to recognize all the great space
they are missing out on. Whether the
need be just for an afternoon cookout or to set up a television and watch the
World Cup, there are many different ways to turn the garage into a cool guy’s
hangout spot.
The garage has
been long-known as the man’s space. If
this is the man of the house’s area, then there are a few things he can do to
create a great spot for himself and the guys to watch the game or to just hang
out:
* Lay some cheap
floor coverings that have team logos on them or are colors that won’t show dirt
as easily. Floor coverings can bring
personality and warmth to the cold garage floor. There are several different kinds of rugs or
inexpensive carpeting that can be purchased to line the garage floor with.
* Put that old
couch or futon out in the garage and add a place for people to sit and
relax. If there is no old couch to use,
there are many consignment stores that offer a constantly changing variety of
couches and loveseats at low prices.
* Find and set up
a television. If the guys are coming
over to watch the game, the television has to be part of the garage set
up. Purchase an old television at a yard
sale, or replace the house’s outdated television with a flat screen and move
the old television into the garage.
* A small
refrigerator in the corner of the garage is also a great way to keep snacks and
drinks available. The addition of a
little fridge keeps the guys from constantly coming in and out of the house
because all the drinks and snacks needed are right there.
* Hang up some
string lights to add some low light and fun to the garage. Instead of burning up electricity with high
power fluorescent bulbs, drive a few nails into the garage studs and hang some
inexpensive string lights.
* Paint the
walls. Add some color to the garage
walls by painting them sport team colors or just cool, party colors.
* Open the garage
doors up and allow guests to peruse in and out of the garage. Close the garage doors when the gathering is
small or there is no need to reach the grill easily.
There are several
easy and inexpensive projects that can turn a garage into a great hang out
spot. A coat of paint, a pool table or a
simple television set can turn that unused garage into a fun place to relax
with the guys.
