Did you know that Los Angeles metropolitan area has roughly 1.8 cars per person? Yes, and it is considered the world's most car-populated urban sprawl in the world, shocked? me too.
This should give us a better understanding why most of us spend hours stuck in one of the so called high-speed road, and when compared to the rest of the world, Los Angeles is said to have one of the largest high-speed networks in the world, but not everybody in California would agree with it, especially the ones spending hours in traffic.
Unfortunately California was built for cars, most streets are built without sidewalks, making it quite impossible for people to walk.
With nearly 2 cars per person we can say that one of their biggest concern is where to park their cars, right? They surely do not have enough space on the streets for all of them, and that is why most of them have a garage that can accommodate two or more cars. So their garage door plays a very important part in their daily routines, imagine getting stuck in your garage because your garage door simply won't open? Surreal, well not in California where everything seems to be possible.
When compared to other cities such as cairo where traffic is so bad that you trample or are trampled, and one struggles with overcrowded roads is nothing compared to the lack of any respect for traffic lights or policemen, they don't even have line discipline, what line? they might ask you, with 17 million people there, one mind wonder where do they keep their cars?
Do they have garage in their houses? Or even garage doors to protect their cars from being stolen?
Well, when you think of these big cities and their chaotic traffic, California seems like heaven, its freeway system handles over twelve million cars daily, and its infrastructure allows its residents to carry on with their daily migration of over 300 million miles, even so L.A. holds the number one spot as America's most congested and polluted roadways.
Californians believe that if the traffic worsen in the future, they might be forced to introduce the same system some countries already have, the "rotation system" where at least one day of the week you won't be able to drive your car during rush hours. Will it work in California? Well, it is not working for most cities that have the system, they say "rotation system" became "rotation car", people simply exchange their cars with their partners or even buy another one just to avoid such law.
Well then, what would be a good solution for us? Better public transportation seems to be the best way out right now. While it might take some time for the public transportation to convince us all to use their systems and keep our cars in our garage, we should make sure that our garage door is working properly so you can hit the road before rush hours.
At least we can be proud of our garages and garage doors, you might get stressed spending a few hours stuck on the freeway, but at least when you arrive home, you can open your garage door and park your car there.
